The legal bit

Privacy & cookies

We’re a small family business and we only collect what we need to get your order to you and to run this website. This page explains what that is, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.

Last updated: 6 November 2026

Who we are

This website is run by Carley’s of Cornwall Ltd, Great Wheal Daniel, Station Road, Chacewater, Cornwall TR4 8FP. We are the “controller” of the personal information described here. If you have any questions, email organic@carleys.co.uk or call 01872 560831.

What we collect and why

When you place an order

We collect your name, billing and delivery address, email address and phone number, plus what you ordered. We use this to take payment, pack and deliver your order, send order emails and handle any returns or questions. The lawful basis is that we need it to fulfil our contract with you.

We keep order records for six years because UK tax law requires it.

When you pay

Card and wallet payments are handled securely by our payment provider. We never see or store your full card details. The provider processes your payment under its own privacy policy.

If you create an account

An account stores your name, email, password (encrypted), saved addresses and order history so you can check out faster and track orders. You can delete your account at any time by contacting us. The lawful basis is our contract with you.

When you contact us

If you email, phone or use a contact form, we use what you send us to reply. We keep it for as long as the conversation is useful, and no more than two years. The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering you.

Website analytics

If you click Accept on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to see how many people visit, which pages they look at and how they found us. This helps us improve the site. Google Analytics does not tell us who you are. The lawful basis is your consent, and Analytics does not load at all unless you give it. You can change your mind at any time using Cookie settings.

Who we share it with

We never sell your information. We only share it with the companies that help us run the shop, and only what they need:

  • our payment provider, to take payment;
  • couriers and Royal Mail, to deliver your order (name, address and sometimes phone or email for delivery updates);
  • our website host and email services, which store data on our behalf;
  • Google, for Analytics, only if you accept cookies;
  • HMRC, our accountants or the police, where the law requires it.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK. Where they do, they use legal safeguards approved under UK data protection law.

Cookies

Cookies are small files saved by your browser. The essential ones keep your basket and login working, so the shop can’t run without them and they don’t need your consent. Analytics and order source cookies are only set if you click Accept.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

  • give you a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • correct anything that’s wrong;
  • delete your information, unless we have to keep it (for example order records for tax);
  • restrict or object to how we use it;
  • send it to you or another company in a common format.

Just email organic@carleys.co.uk. We’ll reply within one month and there’s no charge.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Keeping it safe

Our website uses an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, account passwords are stored encrypted, and only the people who need it to run the business can see your details.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use your information we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
